Ten On Tuesday - 5/24/11

Another TOT... finally something that helps me blog at least once a week!  haha!

1. Have you ever used Craigslist?
No... I'm kind of scared of it!  I've been on the website several times to look around, but never bought or sold anything.

2. Can you sew?

I can sew a button... if you don't want it to be pretty.  I don't need to know how to sew... I know people ;)

3. Do you pour syrup on your pancakes or dip your pancakes in the syrup?

Pour it on!  I also like to add some peanut butter... nom nom.

4. Rain storms: Love them or hate them?
Ok, here is my crazy answer.  In general, not a fan of the rain... especially when it's almost every day like this spring has been.  And I especially hate the rain during rush hour.  But - I love random thunderstorms that roll through. I like watching weather in general.  Of course I don't live in a scary part of the country that has major tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, etc.  Speaking of which - my heart & prayers go out to the people of Joplin, MO!! :(

5. Do you like swimming?
Yes - I love swimming.  But not a fan of swimsuits, so this makes it difficult for me.  haha!

6. What kind of drink do you order at Sonic?
I actually have never been to Sonic!  But I looked online and I would probably order one of the fruit smoothies.  I love smoothies!  Or the cherry limeade... that looks good too.

7. Are you funny?
I think so... I laugh at myself all the time! I randomly will have some one-liners that even surprise myself!  And sarcasm is my friend.

8. At what age will your kids get cell phones?
Well I don't have kids yet.  But, if I had kids now, with all the craziness in the world, I would want them to have a phone.  I would feel weird if I couldn't get in touch with them at any minute.  It's a selfish reason, I know that.  I definitely understand why most people do not want their kids to have phones until they are way older.... so it's a decision I will have to make in the future.  Of course by the time I have kids who knows what technology will be available!

9. What’s your favorite vegetable?
Definitely tomatoes... I love everything about tomatoes and everything you can do with them!  My favorite is a tomato sandwich.  Especially in August when they are big, red & juicy!  yummy!!

10. Were you a Girl Scout?
Yes, I was!  I don't remember much except my ugly green vest with patches & my cheap set of camping tools.  I don't remember camping though.  And I vaguely remember a big off-white room where my meetings were.  I think... I have a bad memory!

Ten on Tuesday (TOT)

It's my first ToT!
http://rootsandrings.com/2011/05/ten-on-tuesday-80/

Photo Edition...

1. Your favorite piece of furniture in your home.
I will treasure this chair forever.  This is one of the last pieces my grandfather re-upholstered before he gave it all up. He said he always wanted to upholster a chair with different fabrics and it turned out beautifully.  I couldn't have asked for anything better.

2. Your favorite thing on your wall.
My mom painted this for me for my 16th birthday and it now hangs in my living room.  In fact all of the art work in my home is my mom's, but this one was made for me, so it's my favorite!  A friend once pointed out to me that you can see a cat's face in the sunflower seeds... can you see it?  It's watching the little mouse! :)

3. Your bed as it looks right now.
Making my bed consists of pulling up the sheets and blankets, and stretching out Shelby's sheet.  I took the comforter off my bed when the weather became a lot warmer.  Don't judge my messy pastel bed!

4. Your pantry.

So glad I re-organized everything yesterday :)

5. Your favorite piece of jewelry.
(It's a tie!)
My new Pandora bracelet I received as a gift for my birthday this year... each charm is special!

This necklace is the first "real" piece of jewelry I bought for myself when I was 23.  It's my birthstone (garnet) and some tiny little diamonds.

6. Your favorite book.
Yeah... not much to say.  Loved the movie, loved the book even more!

7. Your most comfortable shirt.
I wear this shirt all the time and how I got it is a good story... Back in 2002 when I was at IUP, 'someone' had left this in my roommate's room.  We were packing up to leave for the year and she did not want it, so I took it. 9 years later I still wear this shirt all the time and LOVE it!

8. Your messiest room.

I kinda just throw stuff in this room that needs to be filed and put away.  I also put up my card table to start scrapbooking many weeks (ok months) ago, but never actually started!

9. Your house shoes.
We go shoe-less in this house!  I need a pedicure (still), so I hid my toes :)

10. Yourself.
I forgot to take a picture of myself, so I'm posting this picture of me in NYC this past December.  It was flippin' windy and COLD!!

I love strawberries!

I bought the best ever strawberries the other day... in fact I'm pretty sure I ate more than any person should in one day.

In fact, as I ate each one, I felt like Bubba and his shrimp...

Dey's strawberry shortcake,

strawberry ice cream,

strawberry jam,

strawberry cake,

strawberries in my cereal,

strawberry milk shakes,

strawberry pie,

strawberry smoothies,

strawberries in my salad,

chocolate covered strawberries ,

strawberry cupcakes,

strawberry Twizzlers,

strawberry parfaits, &

strawberry margaritas!

Then, as luck would have it, one of the blogs I recently started following had strawberry recipes which solidified my love for all things strawberry... The Pioneer Woman

Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden

March 10, 1957 – May 2, 2011
Video of President Obama on dealth of Osama bin Laden:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNYmK19-d0U

Another moment in history… where were you when you found out Osama bin Laden was killed by US Navy Seals?

I had just gone to bed and was checking Facebook when I read, “Osama bin Laden is dead! God bless America!”  I immediately went to Twitter where refreshing every second brought more and more info.  I found it incredible  Here are some of my favorite Facebook status updates & tweets regarding this moment in history.

Some tweets from random celebrities…

Paris Hilton - "Just landed back in L.A., so happy to hear the news of Osama bin Laden's death. He was the face of terrorism and such an evil man. The world is a much better place with him not in it."

Jim Carrey - "Wow! They killed the Boogieman! I felt something was in the air tonight! Bin Laden era over!"

Katy Perry - "I am relieved in some ways, but have a feeling of uncertainty now. I believe in justice, but don't you think that an eye for an eye will make the world blind?"

Charlie Sheen - "Dead or Alive. WE PREFER DEAD! Well done SEAL team!"

Ryan Seacrest - “Being in NYC late last night was incredible. People chanting “USA! USA!” Bars handing out American flags & free champagne.”

Bethenny Frankel - “Wow. Osama bin laden is dead. That will make people sleep better at night. Monster.”

Status updates from my friends…

“It's a new moon today, which means it's a great time for new beginnings!” (I don’t know if this was intended for what happened, but thought it was appropriate!)

“Let's be clear on this: OBAMA did NOT kill Bin Laden. An American soldier, who Obama just a few weeks ago was debating on whether or not to PAY, did. Obama just happened to be the one in office when our soldiers finally found Osama and took him out. This is NOT an Obama victory, but an AMERICAN victory!!”

"I will mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that. ~Martin Luther King Jr”

“May 1, 1945: Hitler confirmed dead. May 1, 2011: Bin Laden confirmed dead.”

“Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will be as one. ~John Lennon”

“I'm proud to be an American. Proud to have our freedoms and So very proud of our soldiers and Veterans!. GOD HAS BLESSED AMERICA!”

"It is unusual to celebrate a death, but today Americans and decent people the world over cheer the news that madman, murderer and terrorist Osama Bin Laden is dead.  ~Mike Huckabee”
